LIFE EVENTS
2008-2009
Through our baptismal promises we are mandated to continue to learn and grow in our faith. LIFE Events are a way the parish of St. Monica’s learns together, prays together, gets to know each other, and celebrates! These events are an opportunity to share who we are and how we live as Catholics. LIFE Events are designed for all ages and stages of faith development. This brochure describes each event so that your family may select the ones most appropriate.
Religious education students enrolled in grades one through eight are expected to attend 8 of these events.
Parents maintain each child’s LIFE Event attendance record on the 2008-09 Student LIFE Event Attendance Record form.
Completed forms must be turned in no later than May 31, 2009.
SCHEDULED LIFE EVENTS
First Friday Holy Hour
Come before the Lord to adore Jesus in the Eucharist for Children’s Holy Hour on the 1st Friday of any month at 4:00pm. Students may receive only ONE Holy Hour LIFE Event credit per year.
Creed
Every weekend during Mass, we stand and recite the Nicene Creed, but how often do we think about the things that we say “we believe?” Come explore what this treasure of the Church means and how we are to live it.
Blessing of Athletes
Our physical exercise has purpose. It is a gift that makes our bodies, minds and spirits healthy. This event is a way to emphasize and empower us to always be virtuous as athletes, fans, coaches and officials. Wear your athletic attire for this special blessing.
Blessing of Animals
Celebrate the Feast of St. Francis at St. Monica’s annual Blessing of the Animals at the field beside the church. Bring your pet, and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow parishioners.
Living Rosary
Join us for an evening designed to help all of us enjoy this wonderful devotion to our Lady in a different format. We share the “why” and “how” of praying this ancient prayer. Family members should bring their rosaries.

May Crowning
At this event, we honor Mary, who was the humble servant of the Lord and gave herself completely to her Son and his work. First Communicants are invited to lead the procession. All participants are asked to bring a flower to place before the statue of Mary.
Pentecost
We remember how the coming of the Holy Spirit transformed the lives of the apostles and how the Spirit can transform us today . We too are people of the Holy Spirit, called to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others, to be Pentecost people.

Service Project
Because every human being is made in the image and likeness of God, each person has infinite value. Our love for God must translate into a love for all people and a commitment to treat them justly through service.
